             Internet influence on propaganda model

For the last few weeks we have been talking about how the media is influenced and how Noam Chomsky came up with a propaganda model that showed how media is influenced.  Chomsky came up with the propaganda model in 1988 before people could get on the internet whenever they wanted and before the i-phone and smartphones allowed users to access the internet wherever they want. Or have computers in almost every house in America and 95% of class rooms with high speed internet. With all these significant upgrades in technology, an obvious question would be if the propaganda model has been influenced. The answer is that the internet has made the propaganda model obsolete and what the propaganda model is, advertising, and ownership help to prove this.
Noam Chomsky looked into media farther than anyone before him had. He discovered that media was influenced and biased in five ways that he called  five filters that make up his propaganda model. The five filters were ownership, advertising, flak, anti-communism, and reliance on official sources. The reason that these filters existed is because news stations needed money to report issues, so they were willing to have outside influences help them raise money to be able to report. A few examples of this were that they were willing to advertise things, or be owned by large corporations. These things that allowed the news stations to broadcast news had an effect on what they were reporting because of the fact that the news stations wouldn’t report something bad about the company that was making it possible for them to report.
As the internet has become easier and easier to use it has made the propaganda model obsolete. An example of how it has changed is advertising. On the internet it is so easy to post news or an opinion on something. The internet is also a very cheap way to post news and information that the whole world can see. If you think about it if u were to get on an website that is reporting on an issue in Afghanistan you won’t have to take breaks because of advertising or commercials making it possible for you to be able to read the article.
Another example of how the propaganda model has become obsolete on the internet is ownership. Anyone can post anything on the web. It is easy and cheap and doesn’t require whoever is posting to be owned by a large company because of the fact that it costs no money. Yea some people might post things that aren’t 100% correct but it’s not because they are scared to “bite the hand that is feeding them” because of the fact that no is feeding them besides themselves.
When Noam Chomsky came up with the propaganda models years back he never would’ve thought that technology would be what it is today. This is why he never mentioned anything about the internet because it was not as easy to use and no one relied on it as much as they do today. If he had to talk about the propaganda model today through the internet he wouldn’t have much to talk about because the internet because the propaganda model to obsolete.

After watching the movie "Manufactoring Concent" about Noam Chomskys interpretation of media and propaganda i have alot of new views on the media that we see everday of our lives. Noam brought up a lot of interesting views and issues on media. It is obvious that people who produce media somtimes " more than often" skip parts or tell in a biased way. Why this i, is still a good question because there are many explanations for this. Maby its because it is more expensive to cover certain issues than others, or maby its because they want to use articles that will get most attention to give them a better profit. When Noam said propaganda is to democracy as violence is to a dictatorship. I think that he was saying that dictators use viloence to get their points/ rules across and warps the thinking of people under him. and democracy needs propaganda to change peoples minds and voters so that candidats will get more followers or issues will get more people to support somthing.

Progressive insurance...........The fisrt commercial I saw was a Progressive Insurance. This ad had a tactic in it of bandwagon because there was two guys that see eachother there from different a insurance company and shows everyone uses progressive insurance even people that work at different insurance company's. The commercial also had the tactic of transfer because it was trying to transfer the idea that progressive is way better and easier than other insurance companies. The progressive insurance company also has a salience of when they say "Think easier ,think progressive." This commercial also has strawman because it knocks down the insurance companies that the guys work at. This is because they don't even use there insurance company because progressive insurance must be better than there own that they work for.

Hanes Underwear commercial.............This commercial used testmonial because they had Michael Jordan in it saying he uses there product.

My First advertisement

5 adjectives that I would describe my advertisement  would be: creative simple, dull, colorless, helpfull.
In this ad there are no people so it doesn't point out andy specific gender or race. The color is only on the robot the rest of the ad is just black and white.
The product being advertised is robowow which is a product that will help you keep ur house clean by doing the chores around your house.
Consequences are unclear if there are any.

Breaking down advertisements

Yellowish, exciting, peaceful, adveturous, and outlines would be 5 adjectives i would use to describe this.
In this ad there is one person. It is just the persons outline so it doesn's show any specific gender, race, what the person looks like, or any facial expression. The camera angle is farther away but hard to tell if above eye level or below eye level. The lighting is hazy because there are a few pictures blendid together. The colors follow the lighting as a little hazy and the color of a sunset. The text in the ad are a few different colors and fonts but over all colored so the stand out from rest of the pictures so they can be read.

The product that is being advertised is Burton snowboards. I find this to be apealing because i have snowboarded and it plants a perfect setting in your head of when you are snow boarding. I dont think this targets a specific group but people who like snowboarding in general.
This ad doesn't make any assumtions about race age or color.
I dont think this ad has any consequences. The ad seems to be socially responcible. socially resoncible means to follow rules of society and not to lie about anything in the product they are trying to sell.

Five advertisements that I would describe this ad with would be, colorful, exciting, competitive, powerful, cocky.
There are no people depitictive in this ad. The angle of the picture is on an angle to make everything look so big and with the spotlight on the gatorade bottle. Everythin is bright and colorfull around the bottle and is meant to look like theres a big crowd/stadium around it. Lots of colors used. The oly text used is text talking about/ advertising gatorade.
The product trying to be sold is gatorade. It doesn't specify who the ad is trying to target, most likely anyone that is trying to win at some sport. The feelings it is trying to show is that if you drink gatorade you'll be a winner like there gatorade bottle that just won a boxing match with some other drink.
This ad doesn't make any assumptions about race, age, or color. Consequences are unclear if any. The ad seems to be socially responcible. socially resoncible means to follow rules of society and not to lie about anything in the product they are trying to sell.

Five adjectives that describe this ad are: clever, funny, simple, straight forward, not colorfull.
There are no people in this ad.
The camera angle is straight on so everthing can be seen.
The lighting is good so nothing is dark and mainly pepsi colors used. The only text says Joy pepsi nothing bout the red can which can be assumed is coke without them saying it. The text isn't very big.
The product trying to be sold is pepsi. This is kinda appealing because even the straw doesn't want nothing to do with coke but the pepsi straw is fine. This ad targets pop drinkers.
no assumtions about gender age or race are made.
The add shows no consequences in the product trying to be sold. The ad seems to be socially responcible. socially resoncible means to follow rules of society and not to lie about anything in the product they are trying to sell.
